Help

This page includes details of items and assistance needed on the Island. If you think you can help, please contact the person listed against the appropriate entry.

The volunteer roles provide opportunities to spend time on the Island and, at the same time, to make a valuable contribution.

The DOC rangers are hoping to recruit a number of volunteers to help with regular tasks on the Island. We are awaiting clearance from the DOC volunteer organiser before posting the details here.

New fridge needed

Date posted:  24th November 2015   Contact: John Stewart (johnreastewart@gmail.com) or Dave Jenkins (djenkins@doc.govt.nz)

Those of you who have stayed in the bunkhouse when it is full will be aware of how difficult it can be to find space for your fresh food in one of the two fridges. We would like to provide a third upright fridge. If you have a suitable fridge or can help us to obtain one at a good price, please get in touch.

We need an upright fridge without a freezer compartment or ice maker. As our power supply is limited, we need a relatively modern model with a good energy efficiency rating. You can check the energy rating of a fridge at www.energywise.govt.nz

Clean, empty drinks bottles

Date posted:  24th November 2015   Contact: Mary-Ann Rowland (shop@tiritirimatangi.org.nz)

The hihi nesting season is in full swing and Vix Franks, one of our hihi researchers, needs 40 to 60 500 - 600ml brown plastic bottles (ginger beer and L&P come in brown) OR clear plastic 500-600ml bottles.

They are for hihi feeders to be put near the nest sites to give the best chance possible for the chicks to make it. If you fancy searching your neighbours' recycling we’ll back you up that you aren’t totally destitute.
